What training and skills do LMT's have?

   LMT's in New York State have completed 1,000 hours of training in:
  • Anatomy / Physiology
  • Neurology / Myology
  • Pathology / Hygiene
  • Practical exams and outpatient clinics

    Licensed professionals like Pharmacists, Nurses, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, and Massage Therapists are licensed by the New York State Office of the Professions.

    Masseuse and Masseur are not commonly used to describe licensed therapists.  These terms have been associated with prostitution and "body rub" establishments.  See: "Ethics of Massage"

     Verify the license of any medical practitioner, and research possible complaints of professional misconduct before you visit them.
